MT4 Android Trading Guide: Orders, Stop Loss, Take Profit and Chart Setup

Documentation checked: 13 October 2026. This guide uses documented English menu names. App versions, phone and tablet layouts, and broker settings can change the options you see.

To use MT4 on Android, connect the correct trading account, choose an instrument in Quotes, prepare its chart, and open the order ticket. After submitting an order or a change, return to Trade to check what the broker accepted. The price you typed and the position actually recorded are separate things to verify.

This guide explains that workflow, including market and pending orders, Stop Loss, Take Profit and chart setup. All prices below are hypothetical examples for learning the controls. They are not current quotes or suggested trades.

Check the account and the exact symbol first

Install the app through MetaQuotes’ official Android page or your provider's verified download route. If you are learning the controls, use a demo account and check its label before every exercise. A familiar balance or instrument name is not enough to identify the account.

In the account-management area, add an account and select Login to an existing account when you already have MT4 credentials. Search for and select the server assigned by your broker, then enter the trading login and password. OANDA’s Android login instructions document this sequence for its own servers; use your provider's server details rather than copying the example broker name.

A broker website login may differ from its MT4 trading login. Also, an investor password provides viewing access rather than permission to trade. Being able to see quotes therefore does not, by itself, establish that you can place or change orders.

In Quotes, add the exact symbol offered by that account. A suffix can distinguish instruments with different conditions. Open its Properties or Symbol Properties from the symbol menu; Tickmill’s mobile specification guide documents the Android route through Quotes. Review the available volume limits, price precision, stop-distance information and trading sessions.

Know which screen answers your question

ScreenUse it to check
QuotesThe selected instrument and its bid/ask prices.
ChartsThe symbol, timeframe, price history and analytical objects.
TradeOpen positions, pending orders and current account information.
HistoryCompleted transactions within the selected history period.

These screen roles are described in FXCC’s Android user guide. Its illustrations show an older layout, so use the control names rather than expecting identical icon positions. When something seems missing, confirm the account and history filter before assuming the transaction disappeared.

Set up a chart you can read accurately

Select the instrument's Chart or Open Chart command. Confirm the symbol and timeframe shown on the chart before adding analysis. Pinch to adjust the scale and select the interval required by your written method; changing from M15 to H1 changes what each candle represents.

MetaQuotes lists bar, candlestick and line charts, nine timeframes and built-in analytical tools for MT4 Android. Choose a readable colour scheme and avoid covering the price scale with so many objects that you cannot verify a level. A clean chart helps you transfer a price correctly into an order field.

Use the indicator controls to choose the indicator, its placement and its parameters. Record those settings if you intend to review the same method later. A period of 14 on one timeframe is not the same observation window as 14 on another.

Fibonacci is a built-in drawing tool. The official Android objects announcement documents its inclusion; our MT4 Android Fibonacci guide explains anchor placement. Drawing a line or retracement level does not submit an order. You still need to enter and confirm the intended price in the trading controls.

For the usual forex chart, the candles show Bid history. To display the current Ask line in MT4 Android, open Settings → Charts and enable Ask Price Line, as documented in Exness’s MT4-specific Android instructions. This is especially useful when checking a short position's exit. The extra line does not reconstruct a complete historical Ask-candle series.

Prepare a market order without rushing the ticket

From Quotes, select the instrument and choose New Order. The ticket contains the order type, volume and available price fields. TIOmarkets’ Android order guide describes this route and the Buy by Market and Sell by Market controls used for market execution.

  1. Read the symbol again, including any suffix.
  2. Check the execution type displayed by the account.
  3. Enter your planned volume using the broker's permitted lot increments.
  4. Enter SL and TP prices where supported, checking the rules below.
  5. Read all fields together before selecting the intended buy or sell action.
  6. Check the response, then verify the resulting ticket in Trade.

Execution modes differ. Under market execution, the submitted request accepts execution at the price determined through the broker's process. Instant execution can instead return a requote. MetaQuotes’ execution documentation explains the distinction. A displayed quote is not a promise that a later request will fill at exactly that number.

For ordinary forex orders, a buy opens at Ask and a sell opens at Bid. A buy closes through a sale at Bid; a sell closes through a purchase at Ask, as MetaQuotes’ closing documentation explains. Those relationships explain why the entry marker can differ from the visible candle and why spread matters when checking exits. See the forex spread guide for the cost implications.

Enter Stop Loss and Take Profit as price levels

The SL and TP fields take prices, such as 1.09820, rather than a request to risk “20 pips” or a cash amount. Work out the intended level first, then check the number you entered. A misplaced decimal point can describe a completely different instruction.

For an existing buy, SL must be below the current Bid and TP above it, with the required distance. For an existing sell, SL must be above current Ask and TP below it. These are the standard relationships in MetaQuotes’ order-type documentation; the broker controls the applicable trading conditions.

Hypothetical quote snapshot: Bid 1.10000, Ask 1.10020
OperationExample pricesWhat to verify
Buy entryIllustrative fill: 1.10020; SL: 1.09820; TP: 1.10420.The planned entry-to-SL difference is 0.00200. Current Bid-to-SL distance is 0.00180.
Sell entryIllustrative fill: 1.10000; SL: 1.10200; TP: 1.09600.The planned entry-to-SL difference is 0.00200. SL-to-current-Ask distance is 0.00180.

The differences are deliberate: the entry and exit sides of the spread are different. In a five-decimal EUR/USD example, one platform point is 0.00001 and a conventional pip is 0.00010. A broker's 50-point minimum would therefore be 0.00050, or five such pips. MetaQuotes’ symbol-property reference distinguishes point size, digits and stop level; do not transfer the same decimal assumptions to every instrument.

An accepted stop is still subject to execution conditions. During a fast move, the fill can differ from the trigger level; Exness’s SL/TP guidance explains that distinction. Use the stop-loss and position-sizing guide to connect the chosen price with account exposure. The position size calculator can help with the arithmetic when you supply verified contract and pip-value inputs; its result does not validate an order against the broker's server.

Once a buy has moved into profit, its SL can be above the original entry while remaining below current Bid. Judge validity against the relevant current quote: a buy position's Stop Loss does not always have to remain below entry. Whether moving that stop fits the trading method is a separate decision.

Choose the pending order that matches the intended entry

On the new-order ticket, choose the required pending-order type and enter its entry price, volume and any attached protection. Select an expiry only if the server supports that option. Review the ticket before using Place and verify the accepted order in Trade.

The following examples use the same Bid 1.10000 and Ask 1.10020 snapshot and an assumed minimum distance of 0.00050. They demonstrate price relationships only; none is a recommendation or a guaranteed future fill.

Pending typeEntry relationshipExample entryExample SL / TP
Buy LimitBelow current Ask1.099001.09800 / 1.10100
Buy StopAbove current Ask1.101001.10000 / 1.10200
Sell LimitAbove current Bid1.101001.10200 / 1.10000
Sell StopBelow current Bid1.099001.10000 / 1.09800

There are two checks: the pending entry's distance from the appropriate current quote, and its SL/TP distances from the pending entry price. MetaQuotes’ order-limit tables distinguish these checks. Attached SL and TP become protection for the resulting position after activation; they are not instructions to cancel a still-pending entry.

Modify, close and verify the intended ticket

In Trade, open the selected position's actions and choose Modify order. Depending on the layout, those actions are available by holding the row or through its swipe menu. Enter the new SL/TP prices and select Modify. Verify the saved levels on the correct ticket afterwards; a typed value alone is not confirmation.

A zero SL or TP means that protection is absent, as MetaQuotes’ modification help explains. Read both fields before submitting a change. An invalid new value should prompt a check of the response and the currently accepted levels, not an assumption that the requested protection is active.

To close a position, choose its Close order action and confirm the intended volume. Do not treat a fresh opposite order as an automatic closure of the original ticket. MetaQuotes distinguishes closing a selected position from managing opposite positions. If partial closing is available, check both the closed amount and the remaining exposure.

A pending order needs its cancellation action, commonly Delete order, while an open position needs closing. Accepted server-held orders and SL/TP do not require the Android app to stay open. However, closing the app cannot send a change you never submitted or make a failed request succeed.

When a request does not go through

Start with the message and the current account state. An invalid price or stop needs different investigation from a disconnected session, read-only login or unsupported volume. Avoid repeated submissions until you know whether an order already exists.

Keep the ticket, symbol, timestamp, attempted prices and exact response for a useful support enquiry. If the available order conditions no longer fit the plan, reconsider the plan and exposure instead of moving prices solely to unlock a button. For broader platform choices, read MT4 versus MT5; desktop automation and testing instructions should not be mistaken for this Android order workflow.
