MT4 Android Invalid Stop Loss or Take Profit: What to Check
Documentation checked: 13 October 2026. Labels and available actions vary with the Android app version and the broker's configuration. The examples below use invented quotes and limits.
An invalid Stop Loss or Take Profit message means the requested instruction has not passed validation. Possible causes include a level on the wrong side of the relevant price, insufficient distance, incorrect precision, or a restriction on changing an existing order. Re-entering the same numbers without identifying the rule does not resolve the cause.
First confirm whether you are opening a market position, placing a pending order, or modifying something already in Trade. Those operations do not all measure distances from the same price. For the complete interface workflow, start with the MT4 Android trading guide.

1. Identify the request and preserve its details
Read the symbol, ticket and order type before changing any value. Note the exact response and the current Bid and Ask. A grey button is not necessarily a server rejection: it can mean the form has not accepted an input or an action is unavailable. A network error or viewing-only login is also a different problem from an invalid stop.
Check Trade before resubmitting anything whose outcome is uncertain. If a position already exists, diagnose its accepted state rather than opening another one. Do not remove protection or submit an unprotected live order merely to bypass validation.
2. Check the price format and the correct quote
SL and TP are absolute price levels. Entering 20 is not an instruction to place a stop 20 pips away from EUR/USD. Confirm the symbol's decimal precision and permitted price increment. MetaQuotes’ contract specification help describes digits, stop levels and tick size; the instrument's settings determine which increments are meaningful.
On Android, open the symbol's menu from Quotes and choose Properties or Symbol Properties. Tickmill’s Android instructions document this route. A field missing from your mobile view is not proof that the restriction does not exist; use the provider's specification or ask its support.
For an open buy, SL is checked below current Bid and TP above Bid. For an open sell, SL is checked above current Ask and TP below Ask. MetaQuotes defines those trigger sides. The original entry price is not the reference for an open position's current placement-distance check.
A short can therefore reach its stop even when a Bid candle appears not to touch it. On MT4 Android, enable Settings → Charts → Ask Price Line to see current Ask, following the MT4 Android instructions. Historical Bid candles alone cannot reconstruct the Ask quote at a disputed execution.
3. Apply StopLevel to the relevant price
StopLevel is the broker's minimum placement distance, expressed in platform points. Convert it into a price difference before comparing values. For this example only, assume five-decimal EUR/USD, one point of 0.00001 and StopLevel of 50 points: the minimum difference is 0.00050, or five conventional EUR/USD pips.
For a buy, compare Bid − SL and TP − Bid with that minimum. For a sell, compare SL − Ask and Ask − TP. Each populated level must satisfy the relevant rule. These calculations are based on the placement relationships in MetaQuotes’ requirements table.
| Requested instruction | Calculation | Diagnosis at this snapshot |
|---|---|---|
| Open buy: SL 1.09970 | 1.10000 − 1.09970 = 0.00030 | Below Bid, but too close. |
| Open sell: SL 1.10060 | 1.10060 − 1.10020 = 0.00040 | Too close to Ask. Measuring from Bid would give the wrong answer. |
| Open buy: TP 1.10040 | 1.10040 − 1.10000 = 0.00040 | Above Bid, but still too close. |
| Buy Limit entry 1.09980 | 1.10020 − 1.09980 = 0.00040 | The pending entry is too close to Ask, independently of its attached SL/TP. |
| Buy Stop entry 1.10100; attached SL 1.10070 | 1.10100 − 1.10070 = 0.00030 | The SL is too close to the pending entry. |
The table diagnoses arithmetic rather than prescribing replacement levels. A permitted price can still be unsuitable for the trade plan. Use the stop-loss and position-sizing guide if changing the stop would change the exposure you intended.
Pending orders have a separate entry check
A Buy Limit sits below current Ask and a Buy Stop above Ask. A Sell Limit sits above current Bid and a Sell Stop below Bid. Exness’s pending-order reference confirms those directions; its specific minimum values are broker settings, not universal defaults. The entry must satisfy the applicable distance from that quote; attached SL and TP are then checked against the pending entry, not current market price.
For a buy pending order, SL belongs below its entry and TP above it; reverse those relationships for a sell pending order. A perfectly spaced stop cannot repair an invalid pending entry. Likewise, a Fibonacci level on the chart does not override the server's order rules.
A stop above a buy's entry is not automatically invalid
Consider a separate hypothetical quote: an earlier buy entered at 1.10020, and current Bid has reached 1.10300. An SL of 1.10150 is above entry and 0.00150 below current Bid. It passes the assumed 0.00050 distance check, although other server conditions still apply.
This example shows why checking only “above or below entry” is insufficient. It does not recommend moving the stop, and it does not guarantee the amount retained if the order later executes.
4. Separate StopLevel from FreezeLevel
FreezeLevel is an additional restriction on certain changes near the market, rather than another name for the placement minimum. For a pending order, its entry approaching the relevant quote can restrict modification or cancellation. MetaQuotes’ freeze table also describes restrictions on closing market positions involving their attached stop levels. Do not assume every freeze check is measured from the original market-entry price.
MetaQuotes’ symbol-property reference identifies stop and freeze levels separately. The exact operation and server configuration matter; a permitted new placement and a permitted modification are different questions. If the mobile interface does not expose the freeze value, ask the broker to identify the rule applying to the rejected request.
A displayed StopLevel of zero is not a promise of unrestricted placement. MetaQuotes’ OrderSend notes explain that zero can also accompany dynamic server controls. The phone does not need to display a desktop programming error number for a server-side constraint to be relevant.
Prices can also move while you complete the ticket. A distance that met the minimum when you started typing can fail when the request arrives. Recheck the live quote and current requirements rather than relying on an earlier screenshot.
5. Submit a deliberate change and verify acceptance
Open the chosen row's actions in Trade and select Modify order. The Android user guide documents accessing the position menu by holding the row; layouts can offer additional shortcuts. Review both SL and TP before submitting, then reopen the ticket to confirm the accepted values.
MetaQuotes’ modification documentation states that zero SL/TP means the corresponding protection is absent. Do not assume a rejected edit installed a new stop, and do not judge success from the number still visible in an unsent form.
A short decision flow when the problem remains
- Unclear whether anything executed? Check the existing tickets and history first.
- Wrong symbol, price format or order type? Correct the request before calculating distances.
- Wrong quote reference or insufficient distance? Recalculate using the current quote and the appropriate open-position or pending-order rule.
- Only an existing order's change is refused? Investigate freeze restrictions and account-specific permissions.
- Still unexplained? Send the broker the ticket, symbol, timestamp, quotes, attempted prices and exact response.
Use the provider's verified support route and redact unnecessary personal details. A useful question is: “Which price reference and minimum or freeze restriction applied to this request at that time?” That gives support a specific event to investigate without asking you to guess a wider stop or repeat an uncertain trade.
